For Episode 187 of Social Blend, we’re joined by special guest Rick Kelvington, responsible for some excellent Doctor Who and Star Wars mashups on YouTube, as well as mashups of other popular movies. Also joining us are Social Blend regulars geek journalist Tom Cheredar aka Tched from Venture Beat, and musician Terr Ciavarra aka Media Nox.
Kicking off the show, we follow-up on the controversy that was SOPA – as the protests died down, the news came out that the Feds had siezed and shut down popular website Megaupload, in strangely coincidintal timing with both the protests and Megaupload’s plans for a new watershed application. And as SOPA and PIPA were shelved, the War on the Internet continued, with eyes turning to the global ACTA agreement and Lamar Smith‘s insidious PCIP Act. Social Blend deconstructs them and gives you a brief overview on these new threats of censorship.

Meanwhile, dominating the web this week was the Blackout Protest across the internet against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT-IP Act (PIPA) – we take a look at the protests from sites such as Wikipedia and Reddit, and discuss latest developments in the War of the Internet!
